The Vice Chancellor of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Prof. Eyitope Ogunbodede, has said the institution may involve the police to verify a telephone conversation involving Prof. Richard Akindele and the student of the institution. Former US First Lady Barbara Bush dies at 92

Barbara Bush, former US first lady and literacy campaigner, has died aged 92. A statement from the office of her husband, former president George HW Bush, described her as a "relentless proponent of family literacy". Mrs Bush, the only woman to have seen her husband and son sworn in as US president, had been in failing health for some time and had declined further medical treatment. She said she wanted to spend her last days in "comfort care" with her family. Her husband, at 93, is the longest-lived US president. Their son, George W Bush, was elected president in 2000 and served two terms as the nation's 43rd president. He said in a statement: "My dear mother has passed on at age 92. Laura, Barbara, Jenna, and I are sad, but our souls are settled because we know hers was. Barbara Bush was a fabulous First Lady and a woman unlike any other who brought levity, love, and literacy to millions."

World's first electrified road for charging vehicles opens in Sweden

The world’s first electrified road that recharges the batteries of cars and trucks driving on it has been opened in Sweden. About 2km (1.2 miles) of electric rail has been embedded in a public road near Stockholm, but the government’s roads agency has already drafted a national map for future expansion. Sweden’s target of achieving independence from fossil fuel by 2030 requires a 70% reduction in the transport sector. Energy is transferred from two tracks of rail in the road via a movable arm attached to the bottom of a vehicle. The design is not dissimilar to that of a Scalextric track, although should the vehicle overtake, the arm is automatically disconnected. The electrified road is divided into 50m sections, with an individual section powered only when a vehicle is above it. When a vehicle stops, the current is disconnected. Kastina Senator (Kastina North Central District) Mustapha Bukar is dead The senator also known as Madawakin Daura, reportedly dead less than a week, after the death of Senator Uman Buba Jubril. The senate is again griefing as a senior lawmaker, Mustapha Bukar, has died, the late senator’s personal assistant Ahmed Daura, posted the news on his Facebook page early Wednesday morning. He died after brief illness at the age of 58, until his death he was a member of the All Progressive Congress (APC)

The 2018 Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony has commenced in Gold coast, the 21st edition of the event and the fifth time Australia has played host. More than 4,500 athletes from 71 nations will compete for 275 gold medals at the commonwealth games. This is the first major multi sport event which we have the same number of men’s and women’s medal events. The games will continue for 12 days in Australia, with Para-athletes also included in the same schedule. This will be the most expensive Commonwealth Games ever put together, with spending estimated to finish at AUS$2bn.   Hundred of commonwealth Games opening ceremony ticketholders were stranded at a major Gold Coast bus interchange for up to two hours as the city’s public transport system plunged into mayhem.

Senator Ali Wakili (Bauchi South) yesterday slumped and died in his Gwarinpa Abuja residence, the 58-year-old reportedly died of suspected heart attack around 11am. He was said to have been confirmed dead at a hospital he was rushed to for medical attention. The lawmaker was one of the nine senators who vehemently opposed the controversial Electoral Act amendment 2018. Led by Senator Abdullahi Adamu, Waliki was one of the senators who stormed out of the chamber to register opposition to adoption of the conference report of the two chambers on the sequence of elections. Senate President Bukola Saraki, his deputy Ike Ekeremadu and Speaker of The House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara expressed sadness over his demise. British boxer Anthony Joshua on Saturday night, March 31, defeated Joseph Parker in the heavyweight boxing fight decided at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff. The Nigerian born professional boxer defeated Joseph Parker at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium in the heavyweight unification bout with a unanimous point’s verdict. But the 28-year-old had to win by unanimous decision of the three refs after round 12 of the tough boxing fight. Joshua who was born in Watford, Hertfordshire, to Nigerian parents, Yeta ,  and Robert Joshua added the WBO belt to the WBA and IBF belts he already holds, but he took the distance for the first time in his professional career. It was his 21st straight career victory.
